Dental Bridges

What is a dental bridge?

Is tooth loss causing your oral health to deteriorate? Are you sick of having gaps in your teeth? Dentists use dental bridges that are prosthetic teeth attached on both sides by dental crowns to replace natural teeth. They are a great way to fill gaps and give you a natural-looking smile that is healthy. The crowns and prosthetic teeth are made to match your natural teeth so they are virtually unnoticeable. Dr. Todd Fincher at his three locations Greenwood, Columbus, Oxford, MS can restore your smile with a dental bridge.

Types of Dental Bridges

Traditional Dental Bridges

Traditional dental bridges consist of a prosthetic tooth bookended by dental crowns, which cover the two abutment teeth on either side of a tooth gap. The false tooth (pontic) is inserted into the gap, with the teeth adjacent to the gap carefully prepared to be capped by the crowns. The pontic is made of ceramic, porcelain, This pontic tooth may be fused to metal in order to create the traditional dental bridge.

Implant-Supported Bridges

Depending on the number of teeth you are missing and the health of your abutment teeth, your dentist may recommend that your dental bridge be supported by dental implants. Dental implants are titanium posts that are anchored into the jawbone to mimic tooth roots. This process is more invasive as it does require oral surgery to place the dental implants. After healing from surgery, dental crowns with a pontic tooth are secured to the implants

Benefits of implant-supported bridge?

One of the strongest and most stable way to secure a dental bridge is with dental implants. With proper dental care dental implants, a permanent fixture in the mouth can last a life time. However, a dental bridge will need to be replaced every 10-15 years.

Cost of dental bridges

The cost of a dental bridge can vary depending on a few different factors. Just like your smile is unique, so is the cost of a dental bridge. Which type of bridge you select or how many teeth you are replacing will affect the cost. Dr. Todd Fincher believes his patient’s should be proud of their smiles no matter the cost.

A Traditional teeth dental bridge usually costs between $2,000 – $5,000 for a pontic and a crown for each abutment tooth.  Some dental insurance plans will cover dental bridges and dental implants as well. Check with your health care provider to see what is included in your plan. Todd Fincher DDS, Smiles for Life will work with you to get the care you need.
