Living with a missing tooth or teeth can affect your appearance, self-confidence, and overall health. It can also be embarrassing and painful. Not only that, but traditional solutions have substantial drawbacks.

benefits of dental implants in Mississippi
ARE THE BEST CHOICE FOR REPLACING NATURAL TEETH
Unparalleled Durability
Dental implants are built to last a lifetime, and, with proper dental care, they can. Although dental crowns, bridges, or dentures attached to the abutments will eventually need to be replaced, dental implants themselves have shown impressive long-term success ratesand may never need to be replaced.
Jawbone Support
Other restorative treatments, such as traditional crowns, bridges, or dentures, do not prevent the jawbone recession that results from tooth loss. If needed, bone grafting can be preformed to replace deteriorating bone. Dental implants act like tooth roots and send regenerative signals to your bone tissue each time you chew, keeping it strong and healthy.
Improved Confidence
If you previously covered your mouth out of embarrassment over a missing tooth or damaged missing teeth, implants can truly change your life. Replacing missing natural teeth can restore balance to your smile, rejuvenate your facial features, and help you feel more confident in your social and professional relationships.
Appearance
Jawbone atrophy can occur from longterm tooth loss. This can cause your face to begin to look sunken with age. Dental implants and restorations can maintain your facial structure and help you look healthier and younger. Since restorations are attached to the implant, they will not move out of place. They will look and feel more like your natural teeth.
Improved Function & Comfort
Dental implants do not interfere with chewing, speech or taste. They also do not irritate the gums the way traditional dentures do. Patients often have greater confidence in their smiles from the enhanced level of function and comfort from implants.

Dr. Todd Fincher and his team have undergone extensive training to place dental implants. Dental implants are used to replace missing tooth roots and support restorations. We perform dental implant treatment from start to finish in our office.
Okay, so let’s talk a little bit about dental implants and what dental implants are. A dental implant is a titanium screw just like an orthopedic would use in your hand or your foot or your knee. And Dentistry has adapted these screws to be able to use in your mouth to replace missing teeth or add additional teeth to your mouth. They come in different diameters, they come in different platforms, they come in different all kinds of things. different shapes. Our primary dental implant we use is from Noble BioCare. I’ve been using this implant for over 25 years and it’s just the workhorse and reliable implant of our practice. We place implants under sedation, we place implants in the conventional way without using sedation. Most of the implants that we are using are single and double implants meaning one or two implants. in the back of people’s mouths to replace the teeth that they’ve lost for some reason. We can do virtually anything on implants that we want to do as far as replacing teeth.
We can replace a single tooth, we can replace bridge work, we can replace a whole arch, we can replace both arches. When we get into the larger replacement, most of the time we’re gonna suggest doing those on their arches. IV sedation. It’s just easier for the patient, it’s easier for us, it makes the whole process go so smooth. The technology we use to place implants is cutting edge. There’s no technology in the United States or in Europe that is more high tech than what we have right here in Greenwood, Mississippi. We employ a comb beam, which gives us a 3D x -ray, if you will, of your head. so that we can look at your bone in three dimensions and determine where there’s adequate bone for implants. If there’s not adequate bone, we’re able to bone graft, and I’ll go into that a little bit later on. So we employ combine, we employ intra -oil scanners, so we don’t have to take impressions of your mouth with trace. We put a scanner in there. It gives us a scanned image that is a digital copy of your mouth, so we have that on PAL. file. We combined the intra -oil scan with the cone beam and we are now able to 3D print temporary to final bridge work. We can 3D print full bridges, we can 3D print full arches, we can 3D print single crowns. So again it keeps everything right here without you having to travel anywhere.
I’ll talk a little bit about our bone grafting procedure so when you you’re going to lose a tooth and we’re going to use that bone graft to replace the ridge where the tooth is taken prime. So we may be putting an implant in that site, in that socket site, or we may just be enhancing the ridge for further bridge work down the road. We use a type of bone that we get from Nobel that is a great type of bone and a membrane that will put over the bone to ensure that the bone graft stays in place. So the process goes like this, the tooth is removed, the bone graft material is put into the socket, a bandaid which we call a non -resorbable membrane is put over the socket and this is sutured into place. That’s left alone for four months at that point then we come in and we place our implant in that site. If the jaw bone is completely deficient and that type of bone grafting is not an option, we have another option of block bone grafting where we have a block of bone milled out that is site specific off the cone beam, again off of the intra -oil scanner, and that bone graft is then placed in the deficient area screwed to the jaw. and allowed to incorporate that bone graft with your bone graft. We use a type of blood component that we draw out of your blood to coat over the bone graft to stimulate cell production in there so that your bone recognizes it as bone and grows to it. Then we come back and place implants in that six to nine months later.

Dental Implant Timeline
What to expect
After you decide dental implants are the right treatment plan in one of our three Mississippi dental practices. Dr Fincher will likely follow the steps below. If you are suffer from gum disease, or lacking jawbone strength, you may require some preparatory treatments for optimum implant longevity.
Before dental implant surgery, you will have a dental consultation with Dr. Fincher. During this visit, he will examine your jaw to determine whether you have enough bone to support dental implants. He may use a can use a cone beam scanner to create a 3-D model of your bite. He may take digital scans or photos of you mouth. If not, we can perform a bone graft or sinus lift at our offices. If you do not require any preparatory procedures, we can schedule your implant surgery.
On the day of your surgery, Dr. Fincher may use one of our sedation or anesthesia options to make you more comfortable duration of the procedure. He will create a minor incision in your gums in order to place the implants. With the help of a 3-D surgical guide, he can reduce the size of the incision to expedite your treatment time, shorten your recovery, and minimize your risk of complications. When the implants are placed, the surgeon can suture your gums closed. In some cases, a temporary restoration may be placed at this time.
Three to six months is the typical length of time for the titanium posts to fuse with the jawbone. This process is known as “osseointergration.”
After the first healing and osseointegration is completed, Dr. Fincher can then place an abutment on the implant during the follow-up appointment. The abutment will acts as a base for your restoration.
After the abutment is placed, it typically take two weeks for the gums to properly heal around the abutment. It is important to follow your dentist’s instructions and practice good oral care. It is normal to experience some swelling, bleeding, and discomfort for a few days after any dental surgery. These symptoms can typically be treated with ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication.
Dr. Fincher will place your permanent bridge, denture or crown and attach the restoration to the abutment. He will then ensure it is seated correctly for a long life and the best performance. He will also make certain that it is comfortable and seamlessly blends with your natural teeth to restore your smile.
After you have completed your treatment, you may return home. A soft food diet will be recommended for the first few days after surgery. You should be able to resume typical, non-strenuous activity at this time and most patients return to work within one to two days. Schedule regular checkups so Dr. Fincher can examine your gums and implant.
What are dental Implants?
Dental implants are biocompatible, titanium screws that are placed into your jawbone during oral surgery. They serve as artificial tooth roots and support custom crowns, bridges, or dentures while also providing regenerative signals to the jaw. Dr. Fincher offers numerous implant options to restore anything from a single tooth to full arches. With proper care, good oral hygiene, and frequent visits to the dentist, most patients can enjoy the benefits of dental implants for a lifetime.
Single Missing Tooth
If you are missing only one tooth, a single crown can be attached to the abutment of a dental implant.
Several Missing Teeth
If you are missing several teeth in a row, a bridge can be attached to two or more dental implants.
Missing an Entire Arch
A custom denture can be attached to dental implants using the advanced All-on-4® method.

Are You A Good Candidate?
Most patients can qualify for dental implants as long as they meet certain criteria.
Sufficient Jawbone Density
After tooth loss, the jawbone naturally begins to recede around the location of the missing tooth. Although bone loss previously prevented many patients from getting dental implants, Dr. Fincher offers bone grafting and sinus lifts to restore your candidacy. These two treatments are designed to add volume and density to areas where bone loss has occurred, giving implants a stable, secure foundation. For patients who want to forego bone augmentation but need to replace a full arch of missing teeth, we also offer All-on-4 treatment.
Good Oral Health
Before undergoing any dental surgery, you should be in good oral health. Dr. Fincher can treat gum disease and cavities to give your smile a healthy start before surgery.
Tobacco Use
Implant failure has been linked to smoking. Quitting smoking is highly recommended before your procedure to ensure proper healing and health.
Healthy Lifestyle
You must be healthy enough to undergo surgery. Be sure to discuss your entire health history with Dr. Fincher. Smokers should be aware that smoking has been linked to an increased risk of surgical complications and implant failure. Therefore, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle and refrain from tobacco use if you are considering implants.
Technology Makes Our Treatment EVEN MORE PRECISE & COMFORTABLE
Dr. Fincher utilizes advanced technology to plan and perform your dental implant procedure. He may incorporate computed tomography (CT) imaging on a GALILEOS® Comfort Plus cone beam scanner to assess the quality of the bone tissue and prepare for surgery. Dr. Fincher also uses the Sirona SICAT surgical guide to precisely place implants in an optimal location. Additionally, Dr. Fincher exclusively uses Nobel Biocare® products and can place and restore All-on-4 implants in a single appointment.
Types of Dental Implants
Because every patient is different, we offer a number of different types of dental implants to help you overcome tooth loss, including:
Traditional Dental Implants
We offer standard-size implants made from biocompatible titanium or natural-looking ceramic. Traditional implants are incredibly stable and achieve very predictable, lasting results.
Although we prefer using traditional implants whenever possible, we also offer mini dental implants that are a smaller, more conservative option available for certain cases.
All-on-4 dental implants supports a custom denture with only four implant posts, two of which are placed at a 45-degree angle for maximum use of your bone tissue. This minimizes the cost and recovery time otherwise needed to replace multiple teeth.
Long term maintenance
To ensure your implant lasts as long as possible, it is important to:
- Practice good oral hygiene: Make sure you are brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
- Visit a dentist regularly: You should schedule an appointment with Dr. Fincher or another dentist about every six months to ensure your implant is being properly maintained.
- Beware of infection: In rare cases, implants can become infected. If you suspect you have an infection, you should schedule an appointment with Dr. Fincher as soon as possible.
Understanding Risks
Dental implant surgery has a very high success rate, but any surgical procedure involves some degree of risk. Possible complications resulting from dental implant surgery include infection, implant failure (the post fails to fuse with the surrounding bone), or damaged nerves or membranes. To minimize your risk of developing these issues, it is important to choose an experienced and reputable dentist.
How Much Does Treatment Cost?
At Todd Fincher DDS, Smiles for Life, the cost of a single implant treatment is $1,850 which is far below the national average of $3500 per implant. While most dental insurance plans do not cover implant surgery, Dr. Fincher and his team of dental professionals are committed to making the procedure affordable for all patients. Dr. Fincher accepts CareCredit® financing to help patients afford treatment. Our friendly team can provide more information on financing options during your visit.
