Dentures Restore the Appearance and Function of Your Smile
If you are missing several or all of your teeth on one or both arches, you may benefit from dentures at our Greenwood, MS, Columbus, MS, Oxford, MS practices. These removable prostheses are made with high-quality dental materials that mimic natural teeth. In addition to enhancing the appearance of your smile, dentures also restore function and improve oral health. Dr. Todd Fincher has over 30 years of experience in dentistry and provides a wide range of high-quality services for our patients.
What Are the Advantages of Dentures?
Modern dentures have been used to replace missing teeth for decades. They offer a number of benefits, including:
- Enhanced aesthetics: Dentures fill in gaps and spaces left behind by missing teeth, giving patients a boost in confidence. They also support the facial structure and prevent shifting and mobility of any remaining teeth.
- Improved function: Those who are missing teeth often find it difficult to chew effectively. Gaps in the smile can also have a negative impact on speech. By restoring lost teeth, dentures can bring functionality back to your smile.
- Affordability: Traditional dentures are more cost-effective compared to other teeth replacement options, such as bridges and dental implants.
Exploring Candidacy
Dentures are recommended when patients are missing most or all of their teeth. These appliances can replace teeth on the upper arch, lower, arch, or both. If you are only missing a few teeth, Dr. Fincher may recommend alternative treatments. During a consultation at our Greenwood practice, he can help you decide which treatment option is right for you.
Types of Dentures Offered
There are several types of dentures available, depending on the specific needs and preferences of our patients.
Patients can take advantage of a range of denture options, depending on their oral health needs.
Full
This is likely what you picture when you think of dentures. This conventional prosthesis replaces a full arch of missing teeth and rests directly on top of the gum, supported by the underlying bone ridge. While usually held in place with suction alone, dental adhesives can keep the dentures more firmly in place.
Partial
Where full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth, partial dentures address sporadic tooth loss. Those who are missing several teeth can benefit from these appliances. Like traditional full dentures, they rely on the gums and jawbone for support. However, special dental clasps can be hooked around the adjacent teeth for added stability.
Immediate
Immediate dentures are any traditional full or partial dentures that can be provided on the same day as your initial appointment.
Implant-Supported
Unlike traditional dentures, these appliances are attached to dental implants, which are surgically inserted into the jawbone. Implant-supported dentures provide maximum stability, eliminating the need for dental adhesives altogether. Patients who choose this option can eat and speak in confidence. There is no need to worry about shifting, slipping, or wobbling.
Dr. Fincher uses advanced in-office technology to plan and perform dental implant procedures. Our GALILEOS® Comfort Plus cone beam scanner helps us assess bone tissue quality and plan appropriate treatment. We also use a Sirona SICAT surgical guide, which allows for precise surgical implant placement.
Patients who choose to undergo dental implant surgery at our Greenwood office can opt for Propofol IV sedation. This induces relaxation and helps patients stay more comfortable during treatment.
